MATCH PREVIEW: England Vs Romania, September 24th

England’s performances in their first two games of The Rugby World Cup 2011 have admittedly been well below par, but having beaten them in all four games since 1985 it seems more likely that Martin Johnson’s boys will be joined on pitch by Barney The Dinosaur than lose to the Romanians.

With a few members of the old guard returning to the stage England’s hopes for the match ahead of them must be pretty high, but we all know it hasn’t been plain sailing so far. With the difficulties that have been surrounding players at fly-half the team’s sure fire strategy of kicking to touch and making the most of drop goal opportunities is no longer reliable. Instead they must rely on their strengths in other places to get the job done.

Despite previous troubles on and off the field England are, in my opinion, sure to win on Saturday, and the return to the fray of players like Mike Tindall, Mark Cueto, Ben Foden, Jonny Wilkinson and Steve Thompson will certainly be a factor in securing that.

After facing, and hopefully beating, the Romanians at the Otago Stadium England will face Scotland for their final game of the group stage.
